Wolves have co-habited with the people of the northwest coast for countless generations. They are highly social animals, living and hunting in packs with complex family dynamics. They are also apex predators, playing a crucial role in regulating ecosystems by controlling prey populations. Wolves possess exceptional senses, including hearing up to six miles away and a sense of smell 100 times stronger than humans.  

Among the Nuuchahnulth and kwakwaka’wakw, and some other nations on the northwest coast, wolves represent some of the first ancestors, with their descendants being people who come from the wolf clan.
